I have a digital Canon Eos Rebel XT that I recently had professionally cleaned. When I got it back, the lens (which was also cleaned) started acting funny. With the camera set on automatic focus with automatic settings, I cannot get it to focus on anything further than 5 feet away. I hold the button halfway down and it just stays blurry, sometimes not even attempting to focus. Usually it will not let me take the picture. It locks it. I have a wide angle lens that still works fine, it's just the original lens for the camera that's acting up. I put the lens on my mom's Rebel XT and it had the same problem. Is there something I can do? Did some settings get messed up? Please don't tell me to take it to the shop unless you know for sure this is something I can't fix. Thank you!If I set it on manual, it will let me manually focus it. It is set on automatic when I'm trying to use it and it will not work. This has never been a problem before. The lens is a 18-55mm. moreResolved Question: Are Sigma lenses any good for a Canon EOS Rebel XT?

A friend of mine is a wedding photographer, which is something I have been interested in for a long time. She is booked every weekend for the next few months and wants me to help her out. She wants me to tag along with her extra camera, and then do some editing for her. The editing part I am not nervous about at all. I have been using photoshop for a few years now. But I am nervous as hell about the photography part, because eventually she wants for me to be able to do a wedding on my own. So anyway, I want to get my own camera. Her back up camera is a Nikon D70 I believe. So I am looking for a camera similar to that or maybe even better. I don't have a ton of money to spend on a camera and lenses for the camera, so I am looking on ebay. The problem is, there are SO many to choose from on ebay that I need to narrow down my search. I have read lots of reviews and I do know that I want either a Nikon or a Canon. I am almost leaning more toward a Nikon because that is the brand she uses. But, the ones I am seeing on ebay that are in my price range are the Nikon D40, D50, D70 & D100. Also, the Canon EOS 10D, EOS 20D, EOS Rebel XT (8 mp) & EOS Rebel 350D. So, it seems like I can get a better camera (more megapixels) if I go with a Canon. I am so confused as to which way to go. Please help me! Any information you have on any of the cameras listed would be GREATLY appreciated! moreResolved Question: Which camera / brand of camera & lenses should I get?

I have a Canon Rebel XT, and was going to upgrade cameras soon. I know that the Canon L series is considered the best of the best, but I'm not sure which lenses are the most popular and practical. Currently I have a humble setup consisting of a Canon Rebel XT, Canon 18-55 f/3.5 lens, Canon 50mm f/1.8 lens. p.s. I'm looking to become a professional photographer someday, but I've got a lot to learn. Anyways, lately I've been borrowing my friend's Canon EOS Rebel XT. It has a EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS lens. I'm just wondering what the whole "EF-S 18-55 mm f/3.5-5.6 IS" stands for. My boyfriend wants to get me a camera Lens for x-mas but we don't know which lenses are better. I started taking photos about 2 years ago so I don't really know much about lenses. I consider myself an (extremely) amateur photographer and I've been meaning to get a Rebel K2 XT for a while now (sorry if the model name isn't exactly right). Most places sell the body only with the lens being an additional purchase. I have a Rebel K2 film camera that has a lens already and I'm wondering if I buy the Digital EOS body, if I can use the lens from the film camera. I believe it's the standard EF-S 17-55 f/2.8 IS USM lens. I want to use the 35mm lens (which I assume is an EF lens) and use it on the digital EOS. On the canon site, it says the Rebel XT supports Canon EF Lenses including EF-S Lenses (Focal length conversion factor: Equivalent to approx. 1.6x indicated focal length compared to 35mm format). I'm not too sure if this means I can use the 35mm lens though... moreResolved Question: Tips For My New Canon EOS Rebel XT?

I have a Canon EOS 350d (Digital Rebel XT) and the stock, a 50mm, and a 70-300mm (cheapo) lens. I've been using the 70-300mm since it is the only lens that allows me to get close up but I know in the past I've had much difficulty focusing and obtaining anything more than a very shallow depth of field. While shooting the race I've been switching between sport and manual modes. I'm not sure if the sport shots are coming out nice yet- I'm about to look at them. I've never the servo-tracking focus before. In manual mode I've just been fumbling between different settings. I've been thinking about pulling out the tripod and taking shots with a slow shutter speed, showing a blur to give a sense of movement to the shots.. Any advice/ideas? Thanks! I have had a DSLR for more than a year now but I really hate the 1.6 crop factor that my Canon Rebel XT has. My favorite lens I have is a 19-35mm lens. I greatly enjoyed the wide-angle properties of the lens but now with the crop factor, my 19mm is a 30.4mm. Are the new lenses labeled "Digital" lenses the same equivalent or are they adjusted to give you the mm measurement after a crop factor? Basically I need to know if I would have to buy a 12mm lens to get the 19mm wide angle equivalent of a film camera? Its all a little confusing and I just want a wide angle again and need it to be affordable. If you know of any affordable EOS wide-angle lenses, please feel free to share that as well. My girlfriend is going to be taking a photography class and I want to buy her an slr. This is just to start so we just want to get a basic camera. I have pretty much boiled down to three options. 1) Canon - EOS Digital Rebel XT 8.0-Megapixel 2) Nikon - D40 6.1MP 3) Sony - Alpha 10.2MP I know that sony bought out magnolia and that she has used a magnolia 35 mm in the past.... she has no lenses though so that is of little influence. We aren't expecting to get into action shots too much... she is pretty artistic so I would think that she would want something that could produce better quality shots. So I guess that I am looking for some opinions here... I know that investing in a camera means investing in that brand since you always want more lenses. Also I know that she is pretty serious about this so I would need something that she won't outgrow too quickly... I am open to anything else so lay it on me. What do you think would be right for her? Thanks in advance!!!Oh she knows that I am getting her the camera. We are going to look today at all three. But I figure that you can't really judge a camera at first glance.
